The Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG®) 2023 Task Analysis Survey (TAS) is now closed.   ASBOG® would like to sincerely thank all of the professional geologists nationwide who volunteered your time and knowledge by participating in the survey  – your efforts on this project are greatly appreciated.

ASBOG®  will now process the data and use survey responses to revise the scope and content of the national licensure examinations.  Results of this project are vital for the examinations to remain technically valid and legally defensible.  A report presenting the results of 2023 TAS will be uploaded to the ABSOG® website in January 2023.  The October 2023 examination will be the first exam administration that incorporates the revised scope and content of the exams based on results of the 2023 TAS.

This is the first time ASBOG® has conducted the survey in an online format.  The previous TAS’s completed in 2005, 2010, and 2015 were delivered via USPS using bubble sheets.  Despite our best efforts to comply with basic spam/phishing rules, delivery of the survey in this online format came with a couple of unintended consequences.  Unfortunately, some state servers changed the URL for the TAS, preventing many licensees from accessing the survey, and some private companies blocked access to the message.   Despite these challenges, nearly 5,000 licensees responded to the survey, which is more than double the number for any of the previous surveys.  Given this, the survey is considered to be a psychometric success!

Thank you again for your interest and willingness to support the geoscience community.

 Sincerely,

 David M. Svingen, P.G.

ASBOG® President
