Renewals

The 2020 renewal letters were mailed out the November 6th.  Online renewal is activated.   Renewals are due by December 31st.  If you do not recieve your renewal letter, please contact the Board.

New application form is available


The Board has updated it's application form to be more user friendly.  It can be filled out as a form using Adobe.  Just download the application from the Documents tab above and fill it out on your computer using Adobe.  Just use the TAB key to navigate through the form. You still have to print the form, get it notarized, and mail it in.  However, you can fill out Section 1 of Part D for your references and then email Section 1 and Section 2 to your references for them to fill out.  They still have to print, sign, and mail in both Sections 1 and 2, but overall it is easier.  


Veteran?  Disabled Veteran?  Purple Heart Recipient?  or Spouse of?


Governor Bryant recently signed Senate Bill 2863 which promotes, veteran and disabled veteran visibility in State government hiring.  This bill, in order to be consistent with federal guidelines, also defines Purple Heart Recipients as disabled veterans.  If you are the spouse of a veteran, disabled veteran, or Purple Heart Recipient, this bill includes you.  This new bill will take effect on July 1, 2019. The new application form helps us to identify you so that we can serve you with the utmost efficiency.  We thank you for your service and we want to serve you honorably.  

Need a temporary Work permit?


If you are a Licensed Geologist in another state and you need to conduct work of a geological nature in  the State of Mississippi or on a project pertaining to the State of Mississippi, please contact the Board at 601-354-6370.  A 90, 180 or 270 day permit may be easier than you think!

ASBOG FG and PG exam dates and information

The next opportunity for you to take the FG or PG exam is on March 20, 2020.   If you need to take the FG or PG exam, the proctoring forms are now available under the Exam and Document Tabs above.   Please be aware that the form are slightly different from previous versions.  This form must be submitted to this Board by January 23, 2020.  The deadline for ASBOG to receive their payment and form is February 4, 2020.  (The Board provides you with this form). If you have taken the FG exam as an assessment exam, and you need to take the exam again, you must have a complete GIT application on file with the Board.

Address  or Employment  change? 

If you need to make a change in your demographics - i.e. address, employment, phone, etc., send the Board an email and tell us what needs to change.  Theses changes can only be made online if you are renewing your RPG license or your GIT enrollment.

The Board has changed its email address to geology@msbrpg.ms.gov  - The old address will continue to work for another year, so please make a note of this in your records. 


Board meeting

The next Board meeting will be at 4:30 pm on December 10,  2019 at the Board's office.   The public is invited to attend.   This will be a regularly scheduled Board meeting.   If you need to submit a GIT or RPG application please start now so that we can be sure that your application is complete and ready for review for the meeting.

All forms and the required reading of the Rules of the Board, including the codified Registered Professional Geologists Practice Act of 1997, may be downloaded from this site. The entire application package is in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. If you do not have the Adobe Acrobat Reader software, it is available free from Adobe.   After downloading the Adobe Acrobat Reader, click on the Document tab at the top of this page and then the MSBRPG Application Materials link.  Download the application and fill out the application (Parts A, B, and C) and reference forms (Part D) on the screen and save the document.  All of the required forms and instructions for filling out the application are contained in that document.

You must have a completed Geologist-In-Training (GIT) or Registered Professional Geologist (RPG) Application on file with the Board prior being allowed to take either the ASBOG Fundamentals of Geology (FG) or the Practices of Geology (PG) Examinations. You may take only one exam per exam offering. Also note that you will be considered for registration as a RPG only after the successful passage of both ASBOG exams.

Since 2001, the MSBRPG has been reviewing geoscience reports that are being generated in and/or are being submitted to state agencies to ensure that they are being properly signed and stamped by RPGs, that those who are submitting such documents are registered to practice, etc. as required pursuant to the Geologist Practice Act of 1997, as amended, and the Rules and Regulations of the Board. RPGs, GITs, and members of the public are encouraged to report any such activities that may be in violation of the Act and/or the Rules and Regulations of the Board to the agency’s Executive Director.​​
