The next Board meeting is scheduled for 4:00 pm Tuesday, December 20th, 2017 at the Board's office at 777 Harris Street, Suite 103, Jackson, MS.  The public is invited to attend.

Fg and pg exam information

FG and PG Exam Date: March 16, 2018 in Jackson, MS.  FG and PG Proctoring/Verification forms must be submitted to the Board no later than January 8, 2018.

license renewals due

RPG and GIT renewals are due by January 1, 2018.  You may renew online or by mail.  Renewal notices were mailed on November 2, 2017.  If you renew by mail, please fill out, sign, and include your Demographics and Questionnaire sheet with your payment.

wallet size license card pilot program

The Board is offering wallet size license cards to its RPG registrants.  Please email the Board if you would like yours.

New Board members appointed

Governor Phil Bryant has appointed Julie R. Kelley to represent the Government Sector on the Board.  Ms. Kelley is employed by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers/ERDC in Vicksburg.  She will be sworn in at the first Board meeting in  2018.  The Board welcomes Ms. Kelley to the Board and looks forward to serving with her.

Governor Phil Bryant has also appointed Stanley J. Galicki, PhD, to represent the Academic Sector on the Board.  Dr. Galicki is employed by Millsaps College in Jackson.  He will be sworn in at the December 20, 2017 meeting.  The Board also welcomes Dr. Galicki to the Board and looks forward to serving with him.

The Board thanks the Registrants for their participation in the election of Ms. Kelley and Dr. Galicki.

All forms and the required reading of the Rules of the Board, including the codified Registered Professional Geologists Practice Act of 1997, may be downloaded from this site. The entire application package is in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. If you do not have the Adobe Acrobat Reader software, it is available free from Adobe.   After downloading the Adobe Acrobat Reader, click on the Document tab at the top of this page and then the MSBRPG Application Materials link.  Download the application and fill out the application (Parts A, B, and C) and reference forms (Part D) on the screen and save the document.  All of the required forms and instructions for filling out the application are contained in that document.

You must have a completed Geologist-In-Training (GIT) or Registered Professional Geologist (RPG) Application on file with the Board prior being allowed to take either the ASBOG Fundamentals of Geology (FG) or the Practices of Geology (PG) Examinations. You may take only one exam per exam offering. Also note that you will be considered for registration as a RPG only after the successful passage of both ASBOG exams.

Since 2001, the MSBRPG has been reviewing geoscience reports that are being generated in and/or are being submitted to state agencies to ensure that they are being properly signed and stamped by RPGs, that those who are submitting such documents are registered to practice, etc. as required pursuant to the Geologist Practice Act of 1997, as amended, and the Rules and Regulations of the Board. RPGs, GITs, and members of the public are encouraged to report any such activities that may be in violation of the Act and/or the Rules and Regulations of the Board to the agency’s Executive Director.​​

​​Mississippi was the first state in the U.S. to use the Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) Fundamentals of Geology (FG) examination as an exit exam for senior-level geology majors at all of the state’s universities and colleges that offer degrees in geology. Currently all state universities under the agency “Institutions of Higher Learning” (IHL) require that the exam be taken before a degree in geology will be conferred. Successful passage of the ASBOG examinations is required by every state and one territory prior to the initial licensure/registration of a geologist who desires to publicly practice geology. The MSBRPG became a member of ASBOG in 1999.​
